"A woman I admire a lot said to me, 'God makes y'all age to show you that you don't have time to waste, ' " says Jamie Lee Curtis, 54. "It really stuck with me. Information technology's the reason I look for meaning in my life, my relationships, and my friendships."

That's one reason Curtis has made it the theme of her 10th book for children, My Brave Year of Firsts: Tries, Sighs, and Loftier Fives, which celebrates the everyday daring of trying new things from the perspective of a 6-year-one-time girl named Frankie. It's a powerful notion for Curtis. "Humans are so brave," she says, "especially in a modern world with working parents who are trying so hard to go along it all going. But women are particularly brave, probably because we're the caretakers."

Ever amiable, Curtis was happy to sit downwardly for a aboveboard chat about the satisfaction of writing a new volume and the gratitude she feels for her life.

It seems similar you're loving life on the other side of 50.
You see the consequences of the choices you've made. You develop a real betoken of view—and, hopefully, you utilise all that knowledge to make some impact in the lives of your children and family, which ripples out in concentric circles.

What's your next "first"?
I really don't know. I've never been someone who plans anything. A little part of me leaves my trunk and goes, How did you country this life, this house, those dogs, that husband, those kids, that work? Honestly, every proficient thing that's happened to me took identify when I didn't know it was going to. Everything I've tried to control and manipulate has worked, only it hasn't been transformative. Can you share an case from your own life?
Yes. I got sober. I had understood for a long time that my human relationship with drugs and alcohol was a problem. You and your husband, Christopher Guest, have two kids: Annie, who's 26, and Tom, xvi. Now that they're older, are you lot starting to explore different ways to spend fourth dimension with each other?
